Wednesday

Back to it... Blue is good to go as am I. Cool clear morning, full moon hovering over the city. Very light traffic at 5:45. I need to remind myself to avoid pot holes and those metal covers that the DOT insists leaving on dark streets! Leaving for Lake Lanier Island this morning for the property managers meeting so my mext ride will be Friday evening.

Windy Monday

WINDY! Charley, Frances, Ivan -- NOW JEANNE! Ferocious wind downtown. The headwind riding north on West Peachtree must have 45 or 50 MPH.Warm too - I was hot in the double tees. Early departure, almost no traffic. Street campers must have headed off for high-ground too! A short work-week we take off three days for the Property Managers conference at Lake Lanier Island Emerald Pointe Conference Center.

Good ride this morning, I sort of overdressed with the long sleeve tee under the yellow tee! Quiet in the city at 5:45 when put rubber on the road. Arrived at 6:15 to find that I'm the only one here! HA! it's now 7 and I'm still the only one here... is this a holiday? Oh well I have reports to run.. better get to it.

Thursday

Warmer out at 6 this morning the street campers were out in force. Some sleeping on benches, some on the sidewalk, others milling around. The ride was fast - the climbs easy. Today is one of the days that the Ford environmental building lawn is watered. When the wind is just right little sprinkles find their way to the road, quit nice to ride thru!

Monday

This has been the chilliest day yet, about 53F when I left this morning at 6. I wore a long sleeve tee with my yellow GT tee over it, stayed warm enough. When it drops below 50 I'll probably need to wear the white and yellow jersey over the long sleeve tee. Below 40 perhaps the lined wind breaker, jersey and long sleeve tee with wind pants over shorts; below 30... I'll stay at home!

Thursday

Spittin' rain this morning, not drizzle, not sprinkles, it was more like clumps of water falling! So I wimped out and took the fast direct route that leaves out backtracking to LVP. Got a little wet tho my shoes stayed dry. Tomorrow I say home to ponder.

PM:
The rain came as promised Thursday afternoon. It had to be several inches; the water on the road was axle deep in low spots and ankle deep on Marietta Street west of Five Points. The wind was impressive too making headway difficult on the eastside of Five Points. I could not have been wetter. Traffic was creeping along at 2 or 3 MPH - it took an hour to get home (I guess that means an average speed of about 5 MPH). Tho traffic was as bad as it gets car drivers seemed amused to see a bike rider in all that rain and gave me the right of way; everyone smiled, two or three let their windows down a little to chat while we were stopped at traffic lights. Not a bad experience at all, I'd happily do it again... My riding attire was a tee shirt, shorts, helmet and riding shoes.

Chill in the air

Can Autumn be far away.. Low sixties this morning as I hit the road. The days of shorts and Tee shirt are numbered! Warmed up on the climb (such that it is) up Euclid, felt Okay by Five Points, made all of the traffic signals down West Peachtree! Arrived on the varanda at 6:20.

Sundayam

The Sunday morning sunrise ride went well. I rode a measured 12 miles o'er hill down dale to see how fit I might be. Just peachy I think, I may be ready for the Stone Mountain turnaround (no laps around the mountain!) It's about 30 or so miles mostly flat, some on bike path. Of course bike paths aren't built with any kind of speed in mind so I'll probably end up on the edge of the real road anyhow. That just drives the Saturday morning pickup truck drivers absolutely mad; heads pounding from too much PBR Friday night, their arms flail around wildly they attempt to point to the bike path where in their minds I'm s'posed to be! Just goes to show you’re never too old to be a smart-ass.

A really nice day to ride. The temperature perfect, street people were out in force! Blue bike needs to have her derailleurs adjusted. I think I'll adjust the tire pressure down to about 85 or 90 PSI while I'm at it.

Wednesday

"It was a dark and stormy night"! tho the monsoon has abated, light mist an' fog on the road this morning... an easy slow ride replete with warm-up loop. Adjusted brakes, aligned wheels, seat, and handlebar last night. I do believe that one could trim Lawrence until the end of time and it would still fit like a suit of armor!

Tuesday

The monsoon arrived sometime last night. Electricity was off in the neighborhood, thankfully I found a flashlight and was able to locate the battery radio. Lawrence wasn’t too bad this morning his superior weight probably kept us on the road as cross winds qust up to about 40MPH! Sideways rain! I arrived at about 5:55AM. The most dangerous part of this mornings ride was downed tree limbs on the road and that Lawrence's brakes do not work at all when wet!!

Monday

Three days off! I took Lawrence out for testing today since a monsoon is upon us. Everything worked more or less as expected. The five-speed cluster works well tho I am not used to the ratios. Handlebar is awful! I need to flip it over to get a little drop or better yet replace them with a flat bar. That and the saddle (tractor seat!) is way too close to the bar. Six or seven miles went by without too much difficulty but my knees hurt! Not having clips or cleats is just about no fun at all. The steel one piece crank has 1/2 inch threads which pretty much rules it out.

Thursday

Wet roads this morning made for a cool easy ride. I discovered a broken spoke in the front wheel yesterday afternoon; ha! Makes it match the rear wheel with a broken spoke. I know, well I'm almost sure I have a spare 27 inch front wheel someplace... This will be Friday for me since I'm taking tomorrow off. A long weekend, I'll not have to return until next Tuesday!

Hump Day

Sprinkles this morning not really wet just misty drizzle. The slick road surfaces make things extra interesting. Climbs were easier than usual probably 'cause of the cooling effect of mist. The big blue Huffy (Blue Peril) continues to perform well tho the lowest of her gears is on the fritz! Guess I'll practice my derailleur adjusting skills (along with my sleeping skills) this weekend!
